my client wants to put a HOTE SELLERS page. Is there any way in the back end to mark something as a hot seller and how do I get that page to show when they click on HOT SELLERS?
You will need some custom modifications for this. A custom admin field + a custom Frontend page

Really? I would think this would be standard of any cart? It just displays what's been sold most?
For that...there is the "Bestsellers" module. You said that you want to "mark" a product. If you wanna mark something..then you need custom modifications. If you want the bestseller products to be loaded, you use the "Bestsellers" module.
For a bestsellers page...you need some little custom work since there is no page like this in opencart.

if you want a 'hot seller' you can use best seller module built in. Else, if you want to 'mark hot' items, you should use the featured module
