Fixing product purchased report

Hi guys,
For a while I've had the product purchased report being totally messed up. After reading on the issue, I understood that this is because this report is using the model_ID to calculate the quantity.

Since in my store I use the model ID for group of products, I was wondering if I can switch it to something that works better for me, like product_ID?

Would appreciate your help here.
