After 40 + hours wrestling with getting a 5 meg excel file to import, I thought I might try an ODS file. The ODS file is a fraction the size at 500k but still fails to load. (a much smaller ODS file does load)
Does the server process the file in the same manner regardless of size maybe?

PHP settings prevent file uploads past a default (and in my opinion, arbitrary) limit. Typically, this is 2MB. You can uncomment a section of your OpenCart .htaccess file to attempt to override max_upload_size php.ini values, but if you have access to your server (via a control panel like WHM), you can make the adjustment fairly simply!

Thanks so much for the reply, I am well beyond that step. My forty hours includes reading every post ever written on the subject. Yet there is almost nothing on the use of the ODS file which seems like it should be the solution for this issue for every one so I pose my original question in a slightly different manner:
Why would a 500k ODS file not quickly load via the export / import extension?
