Crop category product image - remove white space

Hi guys,

I am trying to remove the white space around the product images, especially on the categories page.
Apparently, it's sthing that has been solved in the latest version (http://www.opencartnews.com/tutorials/a ... mment-2075)
Does anyone know how I can achieve the same result in 1.5.4?

I have fix its with vqmod, remove the white space around the product images on category page, product page for all images: thumb, image popup, images additional..., featured
