how is it possible to make users be able to select the store country at home page? for example, the site will be serving 2 countries, I want to allow the user to be able to choose the country at landing, and accordingly, via geoIP they will be redirected to the proper store URL.

Lots of ways to do this.
1. is to go into the modules and there should be a mod called welcome, install and this will allow you to create a message to display on the home page. So say you have two different sites for two different countries, you can add a picture of each countries flag and link it to the relevant webpage.

one thing to bare in mind is that companies like nike & tiffany will have spent tens of thousands on their website, as you are here I am going to guess that you do not wish to spend thousands, so do not expect to get the same results, Companies use this in order to ship from the relevant warehouse.

not really dear, that is not the point, the point is to provide the user with the choice to select the store on the landing page, i believe a home page lightbox module be the solution with a header edit, can you recommend a good lightbox extension?
