This is driving me absolutely MAD and I would be so grateful if someone could help sort this issue for myself.

I have been running my e-commerce site for 4 months now using opencart v1.5.5.1 and I started noticing that when I get orders sometimes it was missing numbers out in the numbering. I read a few forums and they said it will be logging orders as missing. I checked this out and it was true, every now and again, and it is becoming more and more frequent I am am getting Missing Orders.

These Orders are not being processed or appearing in my PayPal account, so I have not taken payment from the customer, but there order is being logged in my system as a missing order. I know that there could be a case where the customer has went through to PayPal and decided they have changed there mind, so close the paypal page and then the order is marked as missing. But in various cases the same customers are having missing orders more than once, therefore suggestion it is not working somewhere!!

In one case, I have three missing orders from a customer in opencart, and then a fourth successful order from them, but on inspection of the 3 missing orders against the successful one, everything is exactly the same barring the payment was took successful on the last!!!

Could someone, somewhere tell me how to fix this missing order issue? I've read numerous forums where people have the same problem but with no defined answer, this problem is happening completely random it seems and it is making me go grey and it's costing me money!!! Happy to provide other information if needs be...

Same problem for me, unfortunately.
I wonder whether an extension might help, has anyone tried that?

To me, the obvious answer is ask your customers.
If it doesn't happen when you test, you don't see errors logged, then they would be the only ones that could tell you what is happening.
