I can not get the image to stay permanently should change with vqmod also product.php product.tpl and after a function UpdateImg

The image is replaced ok with entering this function:

this.parent.updateImg(thumb);The problem is that when reloading the page is loaded thum original, so do not even see it so Provisional inside to Cart
Should I change in my file also:
catalog/view/theme/default/template/product/product.tpl
and the file
catalog/controller/product/product.php
But I do not know as it gets ....
