Hi,

I am thinking about upgrading from 1.5.6 to 1.5.6.1. I have compared the two packages and noticed that once I upgrade there will be a lot of left over unused files from 1.5.6 which are no longer needed in 1.5.6.1, mainly the openbay stuff.

So I am wondering if the upgrade script automatically deletes all those unneeded files or will I have to install from from scratch. I could always leave them there but it just seems messy.

Thanks

No..the script doesn't delete theme...you need a fresh install to do so..

Thanks, that's actually really annoying then as most of us have a large amount of extensions installed into the catalog and admin area so deleting the whole opencart folder and then installing 1.5.6.1 and re-installing all those extensions is no easy task.

Is it possible to make some kind of script to delete those unneeded files listed in this thread instead?http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=117447

I would of thought it would of been put in the upgrade script as the update was mainly about clearing up the directory structure anyway, which then defeats the purpose if you are only upgrading.

The upgrade script handles changes to the database only. If it's only openbay files, why can't you do a quick compare of about 8 folders (I think it's only 4 in the admin and 4 in the catalog side)?

Yeah I think that's what I will have to do, it's not just the openbay stuff though. I just think for the average user who is just uploading the new 1.5.6.1 files using the upgrade instructions is then going to be left with all those files unless they know how to compare etc. I just thought it would be better if it was included in the upgrade script to keep the install clean and tidy.

I agree but I think it's harder to do, especially when this is Opensource with so many contributors (themes, extensions, etc). To be honest, I don't think a lot of people keep the files "clean" on their servers and don't even really know what's out there.

I found a lot of people with lots of unused files from past extensions..

Personally..I keep my opencart folder clean by removing files after each extension uninstallation/upgrade.
