Hi All,

I am looking for a shipping module (and also shipping estimator on product page) which charges based on the weight of the item and destination postcode.

My freight company has sent me a shipping schedule which looks something like below:

Area A (postcode 1000-1999) = Basic charge $10 + $0.3 per kg + 20% for fuel and taxes.
Area B (postcode 2000 - 2999) = Basic charge $15 + $0.5 per kg + 20% for fuel and taxes.

The above rates are based on the actual weight of the product, or the volumetric weight, whichever is greater. To make things simple I can manually work out which is greater and enter this value in the product data page, so all I really need to be able to do is apply a formula like above.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Jack

Formula-Based Shipping can do this. You would create two rates for each postcode area: one weight-based and one volume-based. You can then combine them using a Multi Rate Calculation of "Highest", and it will take the highest of the two.

If you would like a shipping estimator on the product page, I also have a Shipping Estimate Module.

Hi Johnathan,

I've purchase the fomula based module - very powerful!

I'm setting it up but can't get the final part of the formula working:

Eg: Area A (postcode 1000-1999) = Basic charge $10 + $0.3 per kg + 20% for fuel and taxes. In the 'cost brackets' column I setup the basic charge, and the $0.3 per kg charge. I set the final cost to cumulative and I also put '20%' in the 'Add' section. But when I test on my checkout, it doens't add 20%, instead it adds $20.

Am I doing something wrong?

Are you sure you entered a percentage sign % after the 20?

You should note, though, that percentages in the "Final Cost Add" field are taken off the total value, not the calculated shipping charge. If you want to add 20% to those, just adjust your values by 20%. That is, you would set it up like this:

From: 0, To: 99999, Charge: 0.36, Per (kg): 1
Final Cost Add: 12.00

That would charge $0.30 per kg + 20%, and the base charge of $10 + 20%. Feel free to contact me at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you'd like to discuss it further.

Hi Johnathan,

I've tried emailing you on your contact form the other day, but not sure if it got through.

Thanks for your suggestion it has worked.

Now I've come across another issue. So far I've loaded 34 different rates for different postcode areas. When I click on the checkout page, the shipping sections shows, one rate which is the correct rate. However, when I add in a 35th rate in the module, the checkout page now shows two rates, 1 is the correct rate, and the 2nd rate is the one I've just added in.

If I add in a 36th rate, the same continues, eg: 1 correct rate, and another 2 rates which were recently added. Seems the problem begins after adding in a 35th rate.

I'm not sure if the problem is related to too much data. For each rate in the module, I've added all postcodes individually, separated by columns. In some instances the number of postcodes may be 200+. The reason for this is the postcodes are not sequential, eg: postcodes 2000,2001 and 2003 may be in the same zone, but 2002 is in another zone.

I've modified the php.ini files to 9999999, but that doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
