Hiya everyone - have a look at our Handwoven scarves shop (http://www.silkchassis.co.uk).

We've tried to take the design quite a long way away from a standard opencart theme - customer testimonials in the footer, homemade megamenu in the top menu bar plus integration of a bookflip jquery on the home page - for the hidden stories behind our scarves. Plus some quite involved jquery on the product pages - to allow multiple attribute tabs alongside the main description.

Feel free to let me know what you think.

Kurt

Nice site - clearly a lot of effort and thought!

Search box jumps up and down when you scroll through search results with mouse

Wouldn't hurt to have a homepage icon in the menu bar on the left

Registration on checkout seems to be compulsory :(

No https on checkout (and the payment form is not redirected to provider)

"Store Card for Future Use:" really I mean really ?

The opening picture in the top banner, with mountains behind marsh wrapping tree, is not level, as though the marsh were on hillside, as seen in the skewed axis between the mountains' own contours topside and their reflections' own matching inverted contours.

Feedback as a verb will jolt some, as will a box for Public Testimonial, and without Captcha to safeguard it you will be spending time culling spammers. I trust that you have moderation turned on, and that one way or another attempts to inject code are stopped. Why am I allowed to resize the boxes?

In all, pleasantly mellow, for what is, effective.

@butte

We're going to use an extension that only allows purchasers to give feedback. Thanks for the points about the slopey marsh - I hadn't noticed it but now I have I wonder why the water didn't all spill out.

Thanks for the other feedback which we're assessing now.

Thanks for the comments - The homepage Icon - the site owner insisted that we remove it and use the icon, as many websites are doing nowadays.

Payment processing - this is done via stripe so does not need to redirect to the payment form, and we get card tokenisation automatically for free. The customer doesn't have to store their card info if they don't want to. Similarly setting up an account isn't a massive burden on someone wishing to purchase.

Forcing customers to register leads to cart abandonment

Stripe has very limited geographical coverage

"Do I need to use SSL on my payment pages?

Yes, for a couple of reasons:

It's more secure. In particular, it significantly reduces your risk of being exposed to a man-in-the-middle attack.
Users correctly feel more comfortable sharing their payment information on pages visibly served over SSL. Your conversion rate is likely to be higher if your pages are served over SSL too."
