Hi there! I'm fairly new to OpenCart, but after reviewing many other platforms, this clearly seemed to be the best and I'm very excited about it. I am setting up a website to sell legal documents, which I hope to have finished by the end of this month.

However, I have a problem with the buttons displaying properly in both IE and Firefox. I have installed OpenCart 1.3.4, and I have modified some of the files to meet my needs.

I generally use FireFox 3, so I never noticed that on IE 6 and IE 8, and the buttons (the ones that slide to fit the text, such as "Add to Cart") do not load properly - no text is shown and only the right "end cap" graphic is shown. If I select text with my mouse, the text magically appears, and the remaining bit of graphics disappears.
For example:

This is IE 6 and 8, showing the disapearing button.

This is with the area selected with the mouse

On Firefox 3, the buttons look great. On older versions of Firefox (such as version 2), the same buttons are also altered, but in a different way. The button displays fine except for the right "end cap", which has slid and off-set half-way down.

Can someone help me understand why this is happening? I know version 1.4 just came out, but after spending 4 weeks working steadily on customizing the theme and text of the cart, I shudder at redoing it again.

Thank you so much for helping me!

Sure... the link to my cart is this: http://www.willowvalelegal.com/cart

I'm sure the problem is not with OpenCart - I know the buttons work fine "out of the box." I must have screwed something up, so I am hoping someone recognizes these symptoms and can suggest a fix.

Thanks so much!

Hi again,

In an effort to troubleshoot the cause, I made a fresh installation of the version 1.3.4. shopping cart, located here: http://willowvalelegal.com/store/index.php. To my surprise the problem persists in IE and FF2, so none of my revisions caused this problem. IE is displaying the buttons a bit differently, however, as you can see when you visit that link. Instead of an invisible button (except for the right cap) the right cap is invisible and everything else looks ok. FF still offsets the right tab like before.

Can someone please help me understand why the green buttons are not displaying properly? The fact that an "out of the box" installation is showing the same problem is completely stumping me.

Thanks!

yeah evidently it didn't get tested with ancient browsers. It is indeed broken in ie6 and ff2. even 1.4.0 is really messed up with ff2.

So my button problem has been experienced before by others?

IE6 is indeed an ancient pile of dog poo, but as of December 2009 it held about 20% of the market share of browsers. If one in five people have problems with my website, thats a problem for me... (sigh)...

But this odd problem also happens on IE 8... which makes me think its more than just an old browser compatibility issue. What could it be?

I can install 1.4 and see if that has the same problems as 1.3, but if it persists, I might sadly have to look at other carts, which I don't want to do - OpenCart is clean, simple, and quick - I love it. Except that my buttons are finicky. :-(

I do not see the problem on a default install on ie8 either in compatibility mode or not on my computer, so that must be some sort of issue with your computer. However I can confirm that ie6 and ff2 have problems with the default install of all versions of opencart.

I highly doubt that 1 in 5 of your customers will be on ie6 the people left on it are 1) corporate users whose company won't update (they probably can't shop at work anyways.) 2) people who have computers that are ancient (if they can't afford a newer computer probably can't afford to shop)

I've been thoroughly testing 1.3.4 across many browsers:
IE6
IE7
IE8
Firefox 3?
Chrome
Safari

The buttons problem is definitley there on IE6 all other browsers are OK
