I was looking for an extension that would calculate and add the correct County Sales Tax to orders based on the buyer's County for USA states like New York.
I found two in the Extensions store, but both seem not to be supported anymore. If anyone is using one of those successfully with OC 1.5.5.1 please let me know.
If not, can someone recommend something?
It seems like many people would be interested in this type of extension. It would be great to have a good version that was supported. I certainly would be willing to pay for that.

If your taxes can be divided based on zip code, you could use Formula-Based Fee/Discount to simulate the county tax situation. It's not an actual tax system, but it works for some areas to charge city and county-level taxes.
Take a look at the discussion going on in this other topic, which seems similar to your need:

thanks for the info, I will check out that thread.
Unfortunately though, at least with NY state taxes (in USA), they are based on County, and sometimes Zip Codes overlap more than one county. So as far as I know that would not be 100% accurate to base "county" tax on Zip code, but perhaps that would be the best fall back solution (better then nothing).
I found something interesting when I looked at what other carts do . There seems to be a free service in USA called Tax Cloud, that other carts are using to get the county tax info. I wonder if someone could create an extension that integrates with that information source?
Here is the link to that:

Wow, I second this request. Never heard of taxcloud before but definitely would help a LOT!
Running Opencart v3.0.3.9 with multi-stores and the default template from https://www.labeshops.com which has links to all my stores.
tom327, you can create more regions than just states if you want; take a look at my response in the other topic:

tom327.
I have been using the County Tax Zones mod for quite some time and, even though it is obviously no longer being supported by the developer, I have had no issues with it. I have even been upgrading my core OC with no hiccups so far. Don't know what will happen if we actually get a total core rewrite but will deal with that when the time arrives. May not even go past where I am at right now as everything is working just the way it needs to.
