Product number per page display

Can anyone help me learn how to change this..
My product number per page drop down box now displays 24, 24, 48, 96, all. I want to get rid of 24's.
Can anyone give me steps to change this. I have access to ftp and vqmod is loaded also but have no idea how to use vqmod to make the change and where the correct file is located! Any help most appreciated.

Go to Admin/Settings/Edit/Option
Box: Default Items Per Page (Catalog), fill number of your products
