Maintenance mode stuck...

Hi ,
I have maintenance mode on...but I can not view the homepage even from within the admin section.
I click front store from within the administration and i come up with the same thing people from the outside see:
"We are currently performing some scheduled maintenance.
We will be back as soon as possible. Please check back soon.

But if I click the menu buttons the site works perfectly i can even buy products!.. I simply can not see the homepage...

Any ideas what I could have done?

Check/delete your caches? (Both normal and vqmod)

Thanks blindjoedeath...but it didn't work.
I cleared both, still same issue maintenance page comes up instead of homepage even from within administration...
if I change maintenace mode to off it works normally but I need to keep it in maintenance mode awhile longer and need to test home page... Is there something on the header page that controls the maintenance appearing? maybe I ...
I don't know...
