Hello,

Hope someone has a good tutorial or more info on what and how to for getting memory caching on my server.

I found this already http://www.tecmint.com/install-memcache ... os-fedora/
but it is totally new for me. What is it? What canit do for OpenCart(sql and php?) Are there things to be aware of when installing?

All tips and ifo are welcome.

You can put this on a VPS or dedicated server and I'd suggest contacting your host.

This account is inactive. Look for us under the name 'EvolveWebHosting' and contact us under that username.

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. i already contacted the hosting for my vps. They say, any answers given will be when you buy a maintanence contract... Then they also install it, but i want to do it myself.

That's quaint -- you must buy before they tell you what you're buying, how it works, and what you cannot do about it if you happen not to like it after they explained it after you paid for it. Shop around. Look at a few specific websites, such as stackoverflow, you'll probably find answers enough to decide against paying that outfit before or after buying elsewhere instead. Support usually has reasons for keeping quiet before answering becomes unavoidable. A usual one is complete ignorance.

On some of the "cloud" networks you can, and often must, install your own stuff all by yourself. They often are not the least bit cost-effective, and often are the least supportive (you do the work, they don't know anything about that part).

For what it's worth, you might take a look at this https://www.varnish-software.com/what-is-varnish and others that are similar. There is in sourceforge.net a varnish project.

For the ones that are strugling with installing memcache. Install through ssh (client like PUTTY worked fine for me)

http://www.tecmint.com/install-memcache ... os-fedora/

That helped me. Be sure all nessesary lib files are installed on the server for using YUM if something won't install

Some additional information. I installed all but still had trouble getting memcached running. Took me a day or two to find out that memcache.so has to be written into php.ini In my instance I work with vps. That means it isn't done by the install script so you need to find where on your server memcache.so is placed.

to do so -> goto your user directory with ssh (cd /usr/)
type --> find . -name "mem*.so" (you should see the path to memcache.so)
or try --> find . -name "*.so"

now you know the path to memcache.so
--> open php.ini ( dont forget to backup )
find --> ; Dynamic Extensions ;
add --> extension= "/PATH/TO/YOUR/MEMCACHE/memcache.so" ( in my case extension= "/usr/src/memcache-2.2.7/modules/memcache.so"
Save --> php.ini

Restart httpd TYPE --> service httpd restart

goto and install the vqmod --> http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... on_id=8873

Don't panic --> wait for the sessions to load (in my case I had to wait for the browser cache to refresh. At first you can experience the buy button not to work (empty cart) and no loggin in admin possible) Just wait. if you have a server 500 error --> delete the vqmod and remove the extension from php.ini.

Hope this helps when people want to install memcache on the server.
