Go to http://ckeditor.com/ itself and pull down a newer or older version, rename the checkeditor tree to retain it as-is, mkdir a new checkeditor tree, populate it with what you pull down. Same approach will allow you to quickly compare ckeditor versions by successively renaming the trees to make one at a time the "live" ckeditor tree.
Specifically, see http://ckeditor.com/download/ for packages and versions available.
The two most popular arrangements, ragged-right (slammed left) and centered, have longstanding buttons. Otherwise, something is wrong that requires replacement.

For easy way just try to build a new cke at http://ckeditor.com/builder
Select full, agree download and extract .zip file.
Upload "ckeditor" to admin/view/javascript/ overwriten or rename an old ckeditor folder.

How to Upgrade oc1.5 to 2.0.1.1
Upgrading OpenCart From v.1.4 or v.1.5 to V.2.2 Step by step
I upgraded from 1.5.4 to 1.5.6 and tried this and didn't worked for me. Does someone else have found a solution to make it work ? I'm using FileZilla to transfer the files and The Unarchiver for Mac for the .rar.
I tried both methods, copying the 3 folders mentioned above and downloading and replacing the full ckeditor folder and nothing happens. Do I have to logout-login or something like that ?

Thanks :-)
I don't know if there are any negative implications, but I just replaced the whole ckeditor folder from my previous 1.5.1 backup into the new 1.5.5.1 instance after upgrading and it appears to work perfectly :-)

The hand-on customized versions available through the ckeditor builder/ are potentially non-standard enough not to work right inside OC, so until you know your way around ckeditor that's not a good first choice replacement. Otherwise, you can amend various little things about it to your heart's content -- with or without knowing what then differs from the normal filesets.
Worked great! Thanks!
For the record, it didn't look like it worked at first, but once I cleared the cache everything was fine.
