One feature that I loved on Ubercart (Used before recently changing to Opencart) is the UC followup module. Basically you could have the website automatically send emails after a certain time of an order status change. for instance, after I received payment, I would send an email saying that I got their payment and I was looking forward to shipping them the product, then after 60 days I would just do a follow up email. My customers really appreciated me contacting them. Are there any plans to introduce such a feature?

I wouldn't mind coding up a module myself but I've had a hard time finding any documentation on the module system of Opencart.

I agree this would be a "must-have" extension if someone would take the time to code it.

Not really what you are looking for but my Aweber extension will give you a similar experience, if not superior. When your customer creates an account, it will subscribe him to the newsletter (with opt-in of course) and then on the Aweber side, you create an auto follow-up system to your heart's content.

Here's an example of how to setup the auto-responder:
Instead of creating a newsletter say every week to send out, you pre-write a dozen short messages. When your customer confirms their subscription, they are sent message #1. You then tell Aweber when to send message 2 after x days, message 3 x days later, message 4 x days after that and so on until it runs out of messages. At that point, the system can be set to automatically un-subscribe the customer from one list and move them over to another list. This is perfect for marketing and keeping in touch without having to do any work - like the man on TV says, set it and forget it! The way I setup my store is to offer a free short course to learn the basics of my niche. After ten or so emails the course is over and then the subscriber gets moved over to my regular newsletter list.

I know this comes across as very self promoting but I use this in my own shop and would never run any website without using list software. As a matter of fact most of my dozen plus sites have Aweber built-in since one account gives me unlimited lists! So when it came time to use OpenCart, one of the first things I did was to have the Aweber extension coded for our internal business use but it's too good not to share. It's so good at keeping your business in front of your customer that it should be priced way over $50 like so many other "must-have" mods in the extension store. But you know what? You aren't going to pay $45, your aren't going to pay $40, you are not even going to pay $35 to get it.

Spring has sprung a leak and I've lowered to price to only $32 and that comes with support of course! My extension is new and I need feedback and some *s*t*a*r*s*

Here's what I'm going to do: If you are willing to share your ftp details I'll do the install for free if you promise to give me a good rating and honest comment in return!

In closing, I work way too hard to get visitors to my site just to have them leave without purchasing something. If I can get them to subscribe, then at least I can keep putting great offers in front of their eyes for the foreseeable future and that's worth more than any kind of SEO tweaks you can put on your site.

I've got a request to create a demo video which is coming but probably not until next week.

Hi Aweber,

I'm interested in your newsletter system.. can you tell us more about the subscription management side of things? Can multiple lists be stored within the system? Are unsubscribe lists stored, and can they be filtered through multiple lists?

Many thanks,

JQ

I would be more interested in something that works similar to the request reviews extension, but for more than reviews. Ideally:

Let me email all customers that ordered x when their items are expected to arrive to me to ship out - especially as I deal with a lot of imported items. Or customers that ordered y that was backordered an update now and then that it is still backordered or back in stock, whatever. Perhaps customers that bought z that a matching item is now available. Etc.

Hi,

Has anyone found a solution here for follow up emails?

If I cannot find one, I'll have to make one.

In case anyone is interested, I just released version 2 of my AWeber plug-in for OpenCart. I won't repeat myself here, so please go here to see all the new features:

we would want to split our follow up emails from any newsletter service, the main use for us for the follow ups is to make sure orders were received and that customers are satisfied with their orders

@scanreg - AWeber actually has the ability to auto switch users from one list to another built into the system. From what I understand, you can send a list of auto-responders for example and when your customer buys a product from clicking on a link in message number 7, the AWeber system would then remove the customer from list A and move them to list B so you don't repeat the same sales-pitch knowing full well they already bought from that campaign.

It's not something I have dabbled in yet but it's on my list of to-do's for some of my bigger money making sites. As far as that goes, I think you can escalate that single customer from list to list to list with no intervention on your part. If you do go for the test drive and it works for you, please post back to let us know how it went.

thanks, i mean the follow ups would not necessarily be because of newsletter click sales but all sales in general so it would be all cart generated so any/all/recent/etc orders could be sent a follow up

You might want to checkout www.tickletrain.com. I believe it may do what you are looking for. As long as your store email can include a bcc email address in the emails it sends, it can subscribe that contact to a follow-up routine of your choosing...
