I would like to offer free ground shipping on some items but then give the customer the option of paying for 2nd day air or next day air shipping.

Is this possible?

You could I suppose offer a flat rate shipping as well. And just change the language files to say 'Next Day Delivery' instead of 'Flat Rate'. But this is quite weak for different weighted orders.

Your best solution is to purchase one the delivery extensions that is based off of weight/size and calculates this out for you. I do not know of one off the top of my head that I could recommend but give it an hour and you will have the thread filled with them :D

I use shipping by weight which has standard shipping + express shipping rates defined. Then I use the free shipping mod for free shipping within the us of $100+ and it gives them the option of free shipping or bumping to express if they choose. No other mods needed - I just use the ones that came with oc.

Running Opencart v3.0.3.9 with multi-stores and the default template from https://www.labeshops.com which has links to all my stores.

A better solution.

If you need free ground shipping only on some items, you'll need to use some type of system to determine when those products are in the cart. You may be able to set their weights to 0, and then use the Weight Based Shipping extension to give free shipping when the cart weight is 0. To set up multiple flat rates using Weight Based Shipping, see my tutorial here:

http://www.opencartnews.com/tutorials/h ... lat-rates/

If you need something more powerful than that, such as determining free shipping based on weight + total, or weight + postcode, you could use Formula-Based Shipping or Product-Based Shipping.
