I have Opencart v1.5.2.1 installed. When I go to edit a Product via the Admin Website --> Product Form, I see a Sort Order listed on the Data Tab. I guess I did not ever see this Sort Order Field before. So I am trying to understand the purpose of this field.

All of my Products currently have a Sort Order set to Zero (0). With all my Products set to Zero (0), what is the purpose of the Sort Order Field and how does this Sort Order field get used by the Opencart Code?

What is the purpose of this Sort Order field? Should this be set to 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.

The sort order is to allow you to group products together within the same category, or to make sure your most important or premium products appear first when someone selects a category. Or both.

For example you may have a category that contains some widgets, some gizmos and a few thingamajigs. By giving all of the widgets sort order 1, the gizmos sort order 2, and the thingamajigs sort order 3, your products would appear grouped that way.

Google Product Feed - Get your products into Google Shopping. Includes a bulk update facility.
Backup Pro - Backup (on demand or scheduled), Restore and Clone your store.
Freestyle Box - Add multiple information boxes on multiple pages of your store. Includes optional "Code Mode".

Thank you for your post. What happens in the Opencart Code if I just keep my Sort Order set to Zero (0)? I think the Sort Order is either set to 0 or 1 by default.

Just trying to understand how you used the Product Data Tab Sort Order...
Say that you have 2 widget Products, 4 Gizmos Products, and 5 Thingamajig Products. Are you saying that you would assign a Sort Order = 1 for all Widget Products, assign a Sort Order = 2 for all Gizmo Products, and assign a Sort Order = 3 for all Thingamajig Products?

That way all of your Widget Products would appear together, all your Gizmo Products would appear together, and all your Thingamajig Products would appear together on the Category Pages.
