OpenCart works with both: Magic Quotes On or Off?

Ok, I know, this has been postet a lot, but I just need this simple question to be answered by someone, how really knows it... and it seems, that I´m not the only one: http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php ... tes#p29176

I read most of the posts concerning Magic Quotes, but the problem is, that I´m not allowed to change the server settings (via .htaccess or php.ini) and I can´t wait until my webhoster answers my mails.
(to all german users: 1und1 is a bad choice )

If it´s necessary to switch off MQ:
Is there any older Version of Open Cart, wich doesn´t need MQ to be switched off?

Hello, magic quotes Get Post Cookie (GPC) needs to switched off so characters like ' don't end up with the escape character which is \ so ' would become \'
