Custom Products/Hidden but still for sale

Hi all,

I am a developer and I am setting up an online store for a client who sells oil paintings. My client wishes to sell "Commissioned" artwork, but because there will be no "product" to sell as such, this has been a problem for me.

I would like for them to be able to add a product that meets the needs of the customer, but that con not be viewed by people surfing the site. I read another topic that said if you don't assign the product to a category that it remains hidden even when searched so this might be an option for this type of product if I can then send out the url for the product to the customer for them to pay for it.

I did a test and add a product that was not assigned to any category and it was hidden, but I can't find how to then go to the products specific url. Does anyone know how to get the url of a product that is not assigned to a category?

Or if anyone has a better idea of how to create a product that can only be viewed by a specific user, then that would be great too.

To view a product that is in no category, find out the product_id (by looking at the URL when editing a product), and then enter it in the format:

http://www.mysite.com/index.php?route=p ... duct_id=50

Replace 50 with the product_id of the product you want.
