We have a LOT of products in our database, with plans to add quite a few more. Managing price markup % via import/export excel is what I've been doing, but the problem with this is that COST is lost in the mix. What I don't understand, is why there is not a field option for COST / PRICE / SET PRICE BY MARKUP PERCENTAGE / MARKUP PERCENTAGE. I've found price markup extensions, but they all seem to be out of date and not compatible with the latest build. Continuing to manage price via MS Excel is NOT an option. Any ideas?
OpenCart has many holes, you wouldn't think it's supposed to be even qualified as a selling tool, but a selling tool without critical selling logic built into it. For example you can't charge a customer based on the payment method in order to cushion payment gateway fees, you can't charge the products by margin (which varies per product), you can't manage categories in batches, even today, without buying a plugin (and most plugins just screw up the shop), PayPal express doesn't charge shipping fees while in the cart (not at checkout)... I wonder what the core developers are developing because the key tools or functionality must be centered on sales sales sales and the interactions of our customers with the shop software. It has no SOAP integration, no REST API integration, no JSON API integration... in 2020, it's bloody useless. I've had to hand code a lot of scripts and even change core file behavior by adding my own logic to bear with OC. No wonder if you really need professional tools, you'd probably consider Shopify, and other ecommerce systems. OC is for someone with the money to pay developers to mold it, or to buy hundreds of plugins or hard headed programmers who'd tweak and bend it to behave itself and be actually useful and reliable.
