duplicating module .tpl file

This query is linked to a news extension im using but is probably quite a generic question linked to duplicating a module template file.

Im using a News 1.5.4 extension:

I am more than happy with this extension but just need some help to extend its functionality.

There are currnently 2 'presentation' templates which display information from the news database tables:

Theme/default/Template/information/new.tpl
Displays a summary of all the news posts and allows the user to drill down to view the text of the full post

Theme/default/Template/module/new.tpl
Displays the most recent posts 5 posts, in a menu form. I've added this to the right side of the news screen.

I want to keep the Theme/default/Template/module/new.tpl file as it looks great on the news page, but would like the five most recent posts to appear in a compeltely different format at the base of the Home Page.

How would I go about doing this? Would I need to duplicate the Theme/default/Template/module/new.tpl file, (call the file news2.tpl for example), and them modify the news2.tpl file and add it to the home page? I want this duplicated module to appear at the bottom of the home screen only.

What is the best way of doing this?
