Adding new drop down in registration

Hello,

I would like to add a Required dorpdown option when someone register.

I need to add an option per Country, with a choice of distributor. For example :

If users choose Canada, a list of distributor appears and the user needs to pick one.

If users live un USA, no need to have a distributor, leave it blank......

Can someone help me ? I have an idea how to add it via controller/register.php and account/register.tpl - but I was wondering if I need also to add the value in Database with PHPMyAdmin SQL ??
