Here is something I am working on for a client.
It worked out even better than I'd hoped:

That's very nice Qphoric. I've thought for a while that the other images tab being "hidden" away was not really optimal. Your solution seems to fix this well.

I've tried a different path on my latest template which just groups the images in a fancybox. eg. http://demo2.imaginetech.com.au/index.p ... duct_id=48.

Yea I was just looking at that. I was pleased to find that the fancybox next/prev worked with the additional images as well :) Nice work.

OMG absolutely LOVE the additional images under the product main image. Is this something we can purchase Q? I don't need buy now options as in my case it would encourage smaller sales and I'm all about the upsell... but the additional images is GREAT!

Yes, I am actually working on "modularizing" certain pages so that you can pick 'n' mix the features you want or don't want

The product page for example is being broken down into:

Title
MainImage
Details
Options/AddtoCart
Tabs

So the jcarousel stuff would be a module for "MainImage"
whereas the buy now options would be a module for "Options/AddtoCart"

This allows easy replacement of small chunks of a page without affecting the rest of the page.

It would be better instead of hacking some source code if OpenCart would use those nice features Magento actually has. It is very easy there to define rules in the admin section and to add conditions where and when those rules should occur.
Opencart has actually not even a hook function (like Prestashop) to add some features without hacking the source code.

I do agree.. there is lots of room for hooks to be added. Perhaps I'll take a look at presta and see how they handle some of them.

Yes, we need hooks ;D
But what do you think about the solution which magento offers. I am not a fan of Magento, especially because it does not allow to import products and categories via cron from my distributor. What kind of use should an online shop have without products and categories?
But there are a view things in the admin backend, which would be very nice for opencart too. Those rules and conditions, easy to create by the admin are somehow genius. You can for example say: If Payment method = xyz choose the following shipping method xyz and grant a rebate of x% or make a surcharge of x% if the shipping region = xyz. It is not necessary to hack the source code or something like that, just click through some dropdowns and add or remove conditions. It is a great function which allows total and global control of the payment and shipping process.

This "conditional generator" as I would call it sounds quite nice..

My attempt with Magento wasn't a good outcome.
1. Couldn't get past the install on my localbox running xampp. It would get to like step 5 of the install process and when I click next, it would constantly reload the page.. no error or anything
2. Tried to debug the install.. and the way it is coded makes it impossible to step through the debugger. So I could never see any of the actual code.

I promptly deleted it after that.

Dear Qphoria,
You do not need to install magento. They have a live demo version running.
http://demo-admin.magentocommerce.com/index.php/admin/
After login go to the tab: Promotions and You can see what I mean. Choose for example shopping cart rules and click on: add a new rule. Then You can define those conditions. They obviously did implement a few things into the source code of the shop, which looks if there are some conditions defined. If there is something defined Magento can use those conditions instead of the standard conditions. That is what I mean with a hook for adding code snippets. Prestashop allows that too but much less sophisticated.

Looks good to me Qphoria, although like many I'd just be looking to use the jcarousel option.

Either way - great work. I do hope you have it in your shop soon :D

Ok, I've pulled the jCarousel into its own mod now. Very simple and clean. You can add it to any theme, there is only one line to edit for it to work. The rest is javascript magic.

Your "add to cart" animation seems odd.. or is that just me?

What version of OpenCart? Looks like you have system/library/image.php file. I think image has been in the helper folder for the past few versions.
