Hi All,

I have been trying to install opencart on a real server. I have php.ini which says that magic_quotes_GPC = Off;

However, when installing it says its on. I suspect it is becuase my hosting company has it on. I can proceed to the next step but it is a bit scary to do a real world install with this error knowing there will be serious business with customers buying stuff and paying by credit cards etc.

Now my question probably to Daniel or someone who is a real pro with opencart is that is it fine to go ahead and install it. In what ways will this error create trouble in the future?

I have seen many people ask this but there is no good answer for it. So I guess if someone answers this, it could be a clear and definitive answer.

Thanks in advance.
Vimal.

Make sure you are looking at the right php.ini. Usually there are two, especially on a Linux server. There is the php.ini file that is found under the php directory and the other - which is the one that is used - under the Apache directory.

Find the one in the Apache directory (usually under the subdirectory of bin). Edit that one and see if you have the magic_quotes_gpc set to off there.

Hope that helps!

You can also modify the ini on a directory level. Try creating a file named ".htaccess" in your root OpenCart folder, and add the following code:

Code: Select all

#turn off magic quotes
php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off

That is if your host allows for the override of server settings using .htaccess and you are using a Linux server. ;)
