This is making me crazy.. I thought by upgrading from 1.3.0 to 1.3.2 it might take care of some problems I have encountered and since I only have a couple sample products in my database I did a replace all. Now when going through the intial install I get this Error: Could not connect to the database please make sure the database server, username and password is correct!. I tried everything I could think of inclucing setting up a new database and user with full priviledges and still get the same error.

SOME SAVE ME FROM MY MADNESS :'(

It's as the error says.

Either your the database name, user or password is wrong.

With my host, I have to make sure I use the full names of the database and username.

for example, if my hosting account username was 'bingo' and I created a database called 'house', I need to enter 'bingo_house' into the database field.

Same with the database user name.

It took me several attempts to figure this out.

How did you do the new install? Did you delete the whole folder structure and replace it with the 1.3.2 release? If not it sounds like the easiest thing to do in your case would be to delete everything and start over (following the 1.3.2 install instructions). I am only suggesting this because you say that you didn't have any existing data you needed to port from 1.3.

Is it possible that you are using localhost for the server when the database server is on a different server? This is fairly common in a shared hosting environment.

Yeah most cpanel setups require you to include the hosting username in the database name and username.
eg. If your cpanel username is user1, and your database is called db1, then the database name will be user1_db1.
If your database username is dbuser, then the username required is user1_dbuser.
I believe this is done to separate the database names and usernames on a shared hosting environment.
