Hey guys,

Having some problems with the Sitemap extension. It only finds 3 pages and 2 of the pages don't even work!

I have even tried to upload my own xml sitemap but google says it's empty! Im so stuck.

Thanks so much for you help!

Jack.

Umm, I looked at your site and you've only got 1 product. SiteMap seems right to me.

If i'm missing something, try signing up for a Google Webmaster Tools account and re-submit your sitemap to them.

Hey bigchili,

Thanks so much for the reply. What about the home page and other pages though? It's not listing them?

Thanks so much for bearing with me!

Yeah you're right. The other pages should be listed.

Did you set your store URL in the system settings? Could you try and turn on SEO URLs and see if the sitemap would pick up the extra pages then? If you set up the SEO URLs, you would need to go in and add the SEO URL on each of the product and information pages under SEO Keywords.

Again, thanks for the reply!

I tried turning on SEO URL's before, BUT my cart at the top didn't work! Which was gutting because I would love SEO URL's. The cart literally just disappeared! I am not sure why? It's quite a customised cart in my header so it is probably something to do with that?

Any ideas?

If this does persist, is there a way to just upload my own sitemap? I have tried disabling all the Opencart sitemap etc and uploading my own sitemap.xml to the root. But when I try uploading it to Google Webmaster it says the sitemap is empty! EVen though its uploaded as I showed in my previous post.

Thanks again

Did you edit the .htaccess file in the root folder, add the SEO URLs in your product and info pages, and turn it on in the system settings?

Yeah you could upload the sitemap.xml file to your root folder and then submit it to Google Webmaster Tools. As long as it's formatted correctly Google should be able to pick it up.

Here's a SiteMap generator

http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

And here you can check the format of the sitemap xml file to make sure it's correct.

Yeah I did all of that, but it got quite confusing because I have static pages. So basically I am now trying to upload my own sitemap.xml BUT google doesn't like it. It says Test complete, but then when I click view results it says "Empty Sitemap, Your Sitemap does not contain any URLs. Please validate and resubmit your Sitemap."

Have attached an image of what it shows. I don't get it. I uploaded exactly what I showed you earlier and it says Empty, and when you go to the url it actually looks empty.

I am really confused!

Try creating the XML sitemap yourself using a text editor (I recommend Text Wrangler, it's free). Upload that and see if it works.

The first thing I did (before using xml-sitemaps.org) was creating my own in dreamweaver. Its exactly the same as the sitemaps I make for every other site that work. But this time it doesn't. It's really confusing!

I deleted the line:

RewriteRule ^sitemap.xml$ index.php?route=feed/google_sitemap [L]

from .htaccess

and now my custom sitemap works fine!

Thanks so much for all your help Bigchili!

Ah yeah, you did mention you couldn't get SEO URLs to work.

Contact your host and ask if they can enable mod_rewrite on your server. If they can, then you should be able to get your SEO URLs to work, and then you wouldn't need to delete the above line in your .htaccess and the built in SiteMap in OpenCart would work fine.

Hey mate,

SEO URL's do work, BUT I lose my header cart when I turn them on. So i'm having a bit of a nightmare!
