I just did fresh install from Softaculous, created 1 product, set up tax, and it wont show at all in the checkout. I tried both store address and shipping address. I did check to tax the item in the Product Setup too.

For starters, I wouldn't recommend Softaculous or any other 1 click installers for anything. I've found that problems almost always arise as a result (either now or later on down the line). Better to do a manual installation.
Regarding the tax
1.) Set up your GeoZones under System --> Localisation --> GeoZones
2.) Set up your Tax Rates under System --> Localisation --> Taxes --> Tax Rates
3.) Set up your Tax Classes under System --> Localisation --> Taxes --> Tax Classes
4.) Go to System --> Settings --> Option Tab, scroll down to the taxes section, and make your selections there.
5.) When adding products, on the Data tab, make sure you have selected the correct tax class for the product.
That should be it.

Thanks Big Chilli.... that did it. I think I had it all but GeoZone setup and its showing now.
