We have one main store that shows all of our products (only four) and then four secondary stores on a multistore setup with just one product each. We would very much like to customize the top navigation on a store by store basis to include direct buy links to each of the products as well as external links.
I have been searching for and reading everything about this subject that I can find but have yet to find an answer. All the threads about editing the top navigation involve directly editing the theme’s header.tpl but this (as far as I understand things) would make the headings the same on all sites in the multistore setup and we need each store to be unique.
Does anyone have any ideas about pulling off this customization? Is there an extension that does such a thing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
you need to use a different theme for each store. if you want different theme content for each site, ie. different hard coded links in the top menu, different colors for each site, you must use a different theme for each.

OK, so we're using this extension which seems to be working and which is multistore friendly...

It's a bit of a pain to get it integrated into a custom theme, but it does what it says on the tin and seems to be a good solution for anyone looking to customize their top navigation uniquely for each store in a multistore installation.
