I been trying to figure out a way to have a different banner on each category page. Has anyone else tried this or know how to do it? I can get a banner there but it will be the same banner that will appear on all the category pages.

That is what the layout override is for.
Create new layout (system > design > layouts) with a name that reflects the category you want.
Add modules to the new layout (in this case you want to add the banner).
In the category edit page > design tab, select the layout.

I don't have a (system > design > layouts) that I can locate. In my system folder I have cache, config, database, engine, helper, library, and logs folders but I don't have a design folder.grgr wrote:That is what the layout override is for.

Nope, it's the menus in the admin section you should be looking at.
