Hi,
My client has quite specific requests for packaging and shipping. In essence it's weight based using the UK Royal Mail option. But for packaging they have the following request:
1 item: packaging weight adds 100g and packaging cost adds £0.50
2-6 items: packaging weight adds 150g and packaging cost adds £1.00
7-12 items: packaging weight adds 300g and packaging cost adds £2.00
13-18 items: packaging weight adds 600g and packaging cost adds £3.50
The weight and cost based on these formulas then have to be added to the amount that the Royal Mail extension comes back with.
've just bought the formula based shipping extension but not sure if this will do the trick. Any ideas anyone?
Many thanks!
Konrad
Hi Konrad -- Formula-Based Shipping should work for you, but you'll have to recreate the Royal Mail rates in its settings. You can then use the "Cart Criteria" column to set a Weight Add and Items Min/Max for each of the four rates you've described, and a Final Cost Add for the additional cost.
Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your reply - I've been working on this and tried to follow your steps. I've added a rate for each of the four weights to be added and reproduced the Royal Mail rates. However, when I test the Royal Mail rates never seems to go into the the next bracket - what am I doing wrong here? I've attached a screenshot for your info.
Because of this I can't see if the weight for the packaging is being added as it never goes into the next weight bracket so it's hard to test if that is working correctly too...
Also, the packaging cost shouldn't display as an option to choose from but something that is 'set' - how do I change this?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Konrad -- the only way to get the weight into the packaging cost is to put the Cart Criteria in the same row as the rate, and create four rates for each of the item requirements. So for Royal Mail Second Class, for example, you'd need to create them as follows:
Code: Select all
RATE #1
Items Min: 1
Items Max: 1
Weight Add: 100
Rate Type: Weight-Based
From: 0.000, To: 0.749, Charge: 2.70
From: 0.750, To: 0.999, Charge: 4.30
From: 1.000, To: 1.249, Charge: 5.60
From: 1.250, To: 1.499, Charge: 6.50
From: 1.500, To: 1.749, Charge: 7.40
From: 1.750, To: 1.999, Charge: 8.30
From: 2.000, To: 3.999, Charge: 10.30
Final Cost: Single
Final Cost Add: 0.50
RATE #2
Items Min: 2
Items Max: 6
Weight Add: 150
Rate Type: Weight-Based
From: 0.000, To: 0.749, Charge: 2.70
From: 0.750, To: 0.999, Charge: 4.30
From: 1.000, To: 1.249, Charge: 5.60
From: 1.250, To: 1.499, Charge: 6.50
From: 1.500, To: 1.749, Charge: 7.40
From: 1.750, To: 1.999, Charge: 8.30
From: 2.000, To: 3.999, Charge: 10.30
Final Cost: Single
Final Cost Add: 1.00
etc.
Genius! Thank you so much, I spent hours looking at this until my head hurt and couldn't figure out how to do it but now it does the trick perfectly!
Thank again, another happy customer :-)
