I came across an interesting case study by Get Elastic on the Official Vancouver 2010 Olympic Store. They originally had a long multi-step checkout, but created a new single-page checkout with all the options on a single page. With A/B split testing, 50% of traffic was redirected to the original checkout, while the other 50% was served the new single-page checkout. After only 300 transactions, the winner was clear and they stopped the experiment after 606 transactions.

Findings:

Successful completion rate for the entire checkout process increased by 257.26%.
Overall site conversion rate increased by 0.54%.
Some unexpected improvements during this experiment, like an increase of 8.54% in the average order value!

Link to the case study: http://www.getelastic.com/single-vs-two-page-checkout

I want to emphasize that the Official Vancouver 2010 Olympic Store does not run on OneStepCheckout ANYMORE!

I hope Qphoria can create a MultiPage checkout back again for OpenCart.

Warm regards,
Arames

But why? The case study shows:
Google Website Optimizer concluded that the single-page checkout outperformed the out-of-the-box checkout by a whopping 21.8%.
So it looks like we should focus on single page not multi page.. and my proposal for the option to create an account AFTER the order is also considered best. (my ideas are always best :joker: )

Hi Qphoria,

I dont think Google has a lot of experience in Ecommerce Shopping Stores like Amazon does.

I even took a seminar a while ago that was based on Amazon Checkout experiences.

As you can see on every page of Amazon you have banners, adds, products ... but when it comes to the checkout pages, all become clear and add free.

Why? so that customer is focused on Paying and NOT easily distracted.

The One Page Checkout unfortunately, after some experience we had ourselves, who that customer has always access to different aspect of the page and might consider visiting again the product, and then even leaving.

As for the Multi Page checkout, he is concentrating on CREATING ACCOUNT, ADDING SHIPPING, MAKING PAYMENT.

Nothing is more important that to keep him focused on these tasks .. of course we can show him that he can do all this in 1 page, but this will show him it is an easy task that he can complete at anytime ... but in multi page checkout he feels like he is now in a more serious aspect that needs his attention and concentration on getting his order passed.

Again, this is also based on Amazon Studies as well.

Other opinions are welcomed as well as own experience with this checkout aspect, also if you know any big ecommerce site that use One Page checkout?

p.s: Will it be too hard now to create an extension for OpenCart 1.5.2.1 to have multi page checkout? How much will such an extension cost?

Warmest regards,
Arames T.

1.5.x already has multipage (step) checkout.. that already "focuses" on each step.. so there is nothing to change

any plans to create a basic 1 page checkout via vqmod, the current available option via the extension store is a little dear for my needs, would love to test myself multi-page v onepage checkout.

Currently my choices are to accept the current multi-page version or spend $150 bucks finding out. Would it be possiable to rearrange the checkout page so it appears as a 1 page checkout via a qmod? could provide choice for those that wish to test the 2 different methods, on a lower budget than the $150 for only current extension available.

Thanks

This shouldn't be difficult to implement and give us the options for a single page, multi step or multipage checkout. After all, it's the exact same info being collected just with different presentation configurations. This way everyone can be happy with whatever setup they think is right for their business. I might also add that a cart summary at the top of the checkout page with the ability to add and remove products along with coupon and voucher codes is an absolute MUST HAVE. The way the checkout page is currently configured is, quite simply, ridiculous. I'm shocked at how bad it is.

I'm with arch72, I'm currently looking at spending $150 to implement an extension to make the checkout page function as it should out of the box.

What about the below extension? It is only $15.00 and offers a one page checkout. I am currently considering this as I don't want to spend $150.00
