Hello!

I am currently developing a store based on the wonderfull OpenCart code and i feel that i am near the goal of beeing able to go live with it soon. But in my quest for making it as easy to use as possible for the customers i have one thing that i have not seen any solutions for yet.

Im from Sweden so i have only 2 shipping zones and i ship using weight based shipping where one zone is the standard rates for shipping to a pickup point and zone two is the premium shipping which delivers home to your door. Diffrent rates etc for them and all this works fine but its hard to inform the customer on the page what their order will cost in shipping so i have been thinking about a solution to this.

I would want an extension that always in the background calculates and shows the cheapest shipping for whats currently in their cart with out the need of going to the cart and estimate it. Also i use the one step checkout professional mod for my checkout to make it easier to checkout.

Example:
You visit my store and you buy a thing that lets say weigh 500g so when you put this item in the cart it should automatically show the lowest calculated weight cost if you go to the cart page but also when you hover or click the cart icon and get that little ajax dropdown showing cart content, price, tax etc but also show the lowest availible shipping here to based on the weight of the cart.

Then when you go to the checkout page the cheapest shipping option should be auto selected and other shipping options could be there as usual lets say my 500g order can be shipped as a cheap envelope for 1$ but that is with out tracking etc so at checkout you get the option to select a more expensive shipping but that has tracking.

I have searched but not found any extension that will do this but maybe i have missed something? I use latest OpenCart v1.5.2.1 and have been using the standard weight-based module. Would this be a doable thing or would it be to complex? I get the feeling it cant be that hard since all the calculation etc is done in opencart and the original weight-based module works for me as it is.

Any ideas folks?

There's no extension I know of that will automatically add the lowest shipping cost to the cart, but it should be possible. I can't get to it right away, but I'll add it to my list of extensions to develop in the future.

Would be awesome if you had time some day to take a look at it!

Ofc anyone else that has time will do to, will if the price is decent pay for the development of a thing like this have no plans that someone would do it for free since i guess it can be a bit of coding to do.

I luckily found some spare time to create this, and it's now available here:

http://www.getclearthinking.com/automatic-shipping

and here:

http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... on_id=6049

Once the customer gets to the shipping step, they can select a shipping method, which will override the automatic shipping cost.
