Hi,

I've been looking for hours to get SSL working on my v1.5.2.1 but I can't get it to work. It really drives me crazy :crazy:

This is what I've done:

* Installed the correct ssl certificates on Apache including the correct chainfiles.
* Checked if SSL is working with http://www.whynopadlock.com. Check is OK, so SSL is working correctly.
* Edited <root>/config.php and <root>/admin/config.php to set the correct HTTPS parameters
* Enabled ssl in the dashboard

I've entered my opencart website and added an article in the cart. It is displayed nicely on the top of the screen. When I hover over the 'checkout' link, it displays https in the statusbar, so that's correct. When I click on it, I somehow get redirected to http and I end up with a message that my cart is empty. Other paged are working correct with SSL (like the my account page). I use the default .htaccess file with nog custom stuff.

Also, I get thrown out of the dashboard when I switch between frontend and backend and I need to login again.

When I disable SSL, there are no problems at al.

I even installed a fresh install of OpenCart so there are no modules active that can cause issues. It has the same result: an empty shopping cart. I had an 1.5.1.3 install that never had any issues regarding SSL.

Anyone else have the same problem with v1.5.2.1?

Thanks.

Why in GODS name are you telling people to do this? :laugh: This is the last thing you want to do. SSL is meant for pages that require it. Making a home page encrypted does nothing for anyone let alone protect the customer. Okay, if you have a newsletter subscribe where someone enters their email, or if you are registering for something maybe but the home page?
There is a reason why in your config there are only two lines to mess with:

Code: Select all

// HTTPS
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://www.yoursite.com/');
define('HTTPS_IMAGE', 'https://www.yoursite.com/image/');
Same as in admin.

If you want other pages to be SSL HTTPS then control that from within the control files, not the config file.
If you want to test your home page our just type it in manually https://

thanks for the replies.
I already edited the configs and set the correct https address. Running the whole website in SSL is baahahaaad for SEO ;-)

I even installed another certificate (RapidSSL) but that didn't change anything. :(

Thanks.

I dont know your situation and location.
I sell stuff through the internet as a great many others do.
In order to stand out from the competition you have to outperform them.
Here in holland it is now mandatory to have pages where peaople leave their personal data protected.
Not every shop here obeys the law.
So by putting your entire shop under SSl you show your potential clients that you took every efford to protect them since they can se the padlock as soon as they enter the site.
By doing this you create trust.
Trust means getting the confidence of clients leading to bigger sales.
Now all the data between server and client or potential clients is encrypted.
This means that they can browse without anyone knowing what they are looking at.

From the moment I dit put the entire site under SSL sales went up by 13% straight away meaning the cost of setting up SSL ment nothing since it came back within hours.

So if it help selling why not.

PS checked google lately I might be stupid but do I see that google uses SSL

Heh, I'm from Holland too ;-)

Putting the entire site on SSL is an option but it can be tricky for SEO. Searchengines aren't very eager to index or rank SSL websites high.

I'd still prefer SSL only on the checkout / account pages, but if that isn't possible in this version I'll put the whole site on SSL..

Thanks

Another strange thing that only happens on SSL:

I have the frontend in one tab, and the backend in another tab. When I click on a link on the frontend, I get logged out of the backend. ???

Pretty spooky stuff! ;-)

Well it turned out to be an OS issue. I moved from Debian Squeeze to Ubuntu LTS and SSL works like a breeze now!
I am sooooo happy now :P

thanks for all the replies.
