Quick question. What's the best way to arrange the seo keyword input? For e.g. if I'm selling ipads, should I type it "apple ipad" or "apple-ipad" ? Space, or dash??

I read somewhere that if you use dashes - google treats them as separate search terms but if you use underscores _ it treats them as phrase. They were meant to be changing this, but never got round to it. So probably dashes is the way to go.
I like to use + instead of -. + pretty much means space.

I use dashes personally, even in my domain names to separate keywords and this has always worked well for me with Google. Even if Google treats the keywords separately on the page, they still correlate all the keywords in the instance of key phrases. Just keep in mind, no search engine uses meta tags to determine ranking any longer. Meta tags have been abused for so long, it wasn't fruitful in finding relevant information.
As long as your content is well written using the keywords you want to rank for throughout, you'll have good results. I hope this helps!

I know one thing about keywords is while choosing keywords for your site just make sure that first check out keyword competency with your competitor’s website keywords. I want to say that keyword determine results so short tail keywords should be in your priority.

I've read these submissions with avid interest. One thing I've picked up, and I've heard/seen a few times is that meta tags are not in favour anymore. With this in mind does it not make any difference then if you don't put anything in the meta tag keyword and meta tag description fields in the 'general' tab when entering/updating products in the admin module? Or should we continue to complete these fields?
One thing we're struggling with is where we appear, if you search on google. On some things we're appearing a lot higher up the pages than others. But on the majority of products I would say we're a long way down. We don't want to fork out on google ads or pay per click. Something is working somehow, as we have had orders, so people have found us.
Also what's the best way to analyse who's visiting your site? We're registered with Bing and Google but I can't tell whether we've got genuine visitors or whether the robots are doing it all. When you look at who has looked at products through the admin module it seems very much untrue.
If anyone can help with any of the above, I would be really greatful.

When entering products there's 'meta tag keywords', meta tag description' and 'product tags' all under the General Tab.
Then on the Data tab there's 'SEO Keyword'. Do all these fields need to be completed? If not all these fields then which one is the best? Is it just the SEO field?

1. Definitely complete SEO keyword. This determines the structure of the URL in search results, and Google pays attention to that
2. If you've got time, do the meta description, about 150 characters. View it as a 'hey customer, click on this link!' call to action. Google embolden search terms in meta description (when they show it) and some say Bing use meta description
3. Personally I'd skip keywords and product tags. Though tags might be useful to your users, so it's your call. I don't think any search engines use keywords meta as it has been misused by spammers.
Re your earlier question - if you've got Google Analytics you're on the right path to seeing who is visiting your site. I don't think it records visits by search bots. For starter information on SEO, Google's own PDF is worth a look:

search engines still use meta keywords they dont particular give it seo value but it tells them what your site/page is about you should definately use meta desription as search engines use this predetermine your site content is about and gives it a little of seo value put keyword/phrases inside it for that page
Sure there are many opinions but I personally use dashes, well until now worked well for me with Google. But also you must keep a good and well written content referring your keywords to get good results.
