Any chance if anyone could tell me how to achieve this

does anyone know which cart avail that allow me to do this? either opensource or pay?

You could do this with my Item-Based Shipping, by setting up a quantity rate like:

Final Cost: Cumulative
From: 0, To: 1, Charge: 5.00
From: 1, To: 99999, Charge: 2.50, Per (#): 1

This would charge $5.00 for the first item, and $2.50 for each item after that. The "Cumulative" final cost means it would charge the first bracket + the second bracket (so $5.00 + $2.50 x items).

you see in Australia we have some smart arse customer (eg, my ex-wife that will send me broke!)

what if she pick the least expensive freight item put it on the top and the most expensive freight their-after then the formula will not be viable.

My question to you now is:

1. can the extension able to: have individual freight per product and then
2. able to pick the most expensive freight item and put it on the first and the rest 1/2 the rate?

willing to pay ya for a bit of a tweak?

If you need more flexibility than regular item-based rates, take a look at my Product-Based Shipping extension. It allows you to create rates based on the numer of items in the cart, and allowing you to assign those rates to certain products or groups of products. You can then combine all of the rates by giving them the same Sort Order, and set the final cost to be the Average, Highest, Lowest, or Sum of the combined costs.

If your products fit into discrete categories, you can also use Category-Based Shipping, which might be quicker to set up.
