When using the United States Postal shipping extension that comes with the 1.5.1.3 install.
I am unable to enter a password under the user name, in place of that is the *Zip code, Required field.
There is no field to enter the password.
And because of this it will not calculate shipping because of an error with the username and PASSWORD
which I can not enter. Has any one heard of this? What options should I 1st try? I'm pretty new to Opencart,
but setting up UPS was very simple. There was a spot for the username and password, works just fine.
So for the life of me, I can not pinpoint why on earth it is this way. Heh
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Matt,
Welcome!
If there is no password field then obviously it isn't needed.
Password is not a used field in USPS and has no effect on the functionality.
If you have $2.00 and you buy something that asks for $1.00... do you still give $2.00 just because you have it? Same rule applies.
You need to explain what "doesn't work" and what error you are seeing.

Thank you for replying Q.
I'm not sure you understood my problem, Ill word it differently.
What I'm saying is, that during checkout USPS gives me this exact error: "Authorization failure. Perhaps username and/or password is incorrect." now, I'm positive the username is correct. My USPS username is what it is, and that is exactly how I've entered it. So assuming that's all good, it must be looking for a password? Or so I assumed..
That's my problem..any thoughts?

You have to call USPS and request to be moved to a production server, there number is 1(800) 275-8777, Use Option 3
I have called USPS and my API account has been moved to a production server.
When I tried to place an order with my other account on my store, the shipping was not calculating. The USPS shipping calculator to even give me an estimated shipping of any kind.
When I asked them when the api changes will take into effect, they assured me immediately.
I do not understand why this usps api has to be such a pain. I do not understand why this can not be as simply as entering the fields required for the USPS Shipping Module and then it would.........um.......WORK!
Has anyone been able to see their USPS Shipping module work after being moved to a production server?
One other thing I do not understand with the USPS shipping API, I see the fields want an average shipping shipping dimensions and girth. Why does this field even matter at all?
I sell consumer electronics and my products do vary from size from a battery to a tv so why would an average dimension even matter and the girth is something that does not make any sense.
Those fields should be removed and after speaking with USPS they did not know why that was added because they do not even know why they would need it.
The API calculates based off of shipping dimensions, weight, and customer shipping address, why then would the average and girth even need to be added, it actually may be a cause of the USPS shipping module not working.
But we need to figure this out and help people that are also having the same issue.

Because the current version of USPS uses a single package mentality. It doesn't support multiple individual packages. It assumes the entire cart is ONE package at ONE size. Obviously this is a limitation and there needs to be a proper box packaging class, but initially this was done to get "something" working out there.cheatfusion wrote: One other thing I do not understand with the USPS shipping API, I see the fields want an average shipping shipping dimensions and girth. So for now you need to put your "average" dimensions
If you sell some products in a 5x5x5 box
and some products in a 15x15x15 box
or whatever
then 10x10x10 would be a good average dimension. Sometimes you will overcharge by a few cents, sometimes undercharge by a few cents.. but that's the limitation for now.
I fully understand your problem. I see why you are looking for password, based on their error message, but password is a deprecated field in their API. The error simply means you are not on their production server. I will add the test server to the extension in the next release to assist with testing and avoid dozens more of this SAME EXACT QUESTION that nobody likes to try and search for.openseller wrote:Thank you for replying Q.

I am having problems as well with the USPS shipping piece. No matter what I put in the shipping fields (state, city, zip) - i get the same estimte on shipping - there is no difference.
So the included current USPS extension/module is only for estimating shipping, not actually printing the label, etc?
I've made the phone call to be moved onto the production server, and when trying to check out my cart won't show the shipping with the USPS extension enabled. If I disable it UPS , Flat Rate, and Free shipping all work properly.
I'm new so apologies for asking what may seem like a dumb question.

There is a bug with UPS and USPS in 1.5.1.3 that wont let them work together.
The fix is simple and here in the highlighted list of bug fixes:
