[MOD] Complete Manufacturer Description for v1.4.8

Don't know how I missed this earlier, and I hate to throw cold water on this, BUT

Talk about "duplicate content", that thing we all want to avoid for SEO purposes. Ten people copy the same stuff to their sites, plus the manufacturer and/or distributors having it out there and you've got all sorts of duplicate content.

And, to my mind even worse, you've got text that can easily be googled and every other site with the same text quickly brought up, exposing you to instant price shopping.

Even showing the manufacturer's exact name or model number is asking to be "shopped".

Try googling this - "31397 sun mirror" It's 20 pages solid and still coming up in the 30s.

Do you want to be in something like that?

Huh? How is your post related to having descriptions for manufacturers?

This is about adding the manufacturer's description to an item, is it not?

If so, that gives shoppers a common text to google and compare different sources. Unless you are the cheapest, the nearest, etc. you could end up sending sales to your competitor.

I think the point may have been missed here.

The issue is about entering text to describe a manufacturer/brand (not use manufacturer supplied descriptions for products) so the issue of duplicate content for SEO is moot.

Like other users here, I wonder why this (manufacturer description) is not in the OC core? I just looked at the demo of 1.5.0 and there is still no description for manufacturers?

Was this feature ever suggested to the developer(s)? Any official reply?
