Hey guys,

There was a forum topic about manually entering an invoice number in the admin panel (instead of having one generated) and this would be great for me, as I could match it to the invoices we have on our POS. However, the thread didn't really explain anything. So my question is this:

When you go to Sales > Orders > View an order, the Order Details tab has an "Invoice No." field, the second row on the page. Is there a simple way to make this a text box that I insert a manual invoice number into?

Thanks!

While this methodology could be practical for offline payment processing, what happens if, like the present time, the invoice number does get generated automatically but must be sent to the payment gateway and that the order was successful ? Which means that the payment gateway also has a copy of the invoice which the generated invoice number would also be inclusive within that invoice copy for protection purposes.

The other way around, automated payment process does not allow manual entries other than comments and approvals during the process. :/

Hmm, perhaps I don't entirely understand the invoice number then. The idea (to me) was a cross-reference for our point of sale system. We manually enter each order in our POS to ensure that it is taken out of our inventory. The invoice number would be a great cross-reference for both the users and for us in case we ever need to look up that order again. I suppose creating a new field would be simpler for this than modifying the existing invoice package.

For curiosity's sake, what happens when I generate an invoice number? Is that sent to PayPal, where the end user can see it? If so, why? They already have the "Order Number xxx".

The invoice-number is only shown within OC, nowhere else.
