Hi guys,

I'm having some difficulties at the moment with the Image Manager built into open cart.

basically I can upload images and they display perfectly but I'm in the process of uploading hundreds of images and I would like to create sub folders to add these images into.

I can create the subfolder within the Image Manager but I cannot upload anything into that folder. When I try, I receive the following error. "Warning! File could not be uploaded for an unknown reason" This sounds like a file permission issue.

I have logged into the FTP and have set what I believe to be correct folder access rights and have tried locating where I believe the sub-folders to be located. ( /image/cache/data/ ) but they do not exisit.

I am obviously doing something wrong because I am having no luck with it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Sam

You are right - sounds like file permission issue.

Firstly, check whether you have your subfolders visible in the /image/data/ folder?

If not, check the file permissions for that folder (try 0755 or 0777) and try creating them again with the image manager. I have used it with multiple folders and subfolders without problems.

No the sub folders are not actually being created when I create the folder in the Image manager.

I created the folder manually within the FTP, set permissions to 777 and re-created the folder within the Image manager but this also does not work,

If anyone can tell me where the sub-folder is created when they create a sub-folder in the Image Manager I would really appreciate that as I've tried in the following directories but to no avail.

/httpdocs/image/cache/data/NEW DIRECTORY FOLDER

and /httpdocs/image/cache/NEW DIRECTORY FOLDER

my site can be found as: sound-affair.com if this helps

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Mine are in:

/public_html/image/data/SUBFOLDER

Brilliant, I was looking in the wrong place which never helps.

It works well but only when I log into the FTP and force the permissions.

When I create a sub-directory in the Image Manager the folder is created in /image/data/SUBFOLDER but unfortunately the permissions by default do not allow anything to be uploaded into it until I log into the FTP and manually assign the permissions.

this could well be a hosting related issue and it wouldn't usually be problematic however I am relying on a client to upload the images himself and giving him access to the FTP is not really desired option.

Is there anyway around this issue?

Appricate your help, as it's all working perfectly apart from this minor glitch

One other slight issue I am having is that all images in the subfolders do not provide thumbnails in the Image manager.

The image permissions are set the same as those in the main image directory and the subfolders have been set to permissions 777, SO i am unsure why the Image Manager is finding it difficult to obtain the thumbnail for images stored in sub-directories.

Think I remember a similar issue a way back...

I use Filezilla as my FTP program, and think I ended up forcing recursive permissions on the /image/data/ folder. If you are using Filezilla (or try on whatever you are using) right click on the image/data/ folder and there is a tick box (empty by default) that allows you to give the same permission to files within that folder. Try clicking on this and seeing if that gives you the desired permissions so your client can simply upload using Image Manager.

Ok I found the solution for anyone who needs a solution.

If you think you have set everything to 777 then you probably haven't. Even if you click "Recurse into subdirectories." trust me you haven't!!!!!

BASICALLY ALL FOLDERS NEED TO BE CREATED WITHIN THE FTP NOT OPENCART!!!

When Opencart creates a folder it automatically assigns a permission value which cannot be changed, meaning even if you change the permission value within the FTP the folder will revoke permission changes and stay at its default state.

To create sub folders you will Need to log into your FTP and create the appropriate subfolders manually @ "/image/data" this will allow images to be saved using OpenCarts Image manager.Once folders have been created assign permissions 777 to them. Once this has been complete the images thumbnails may not be viewable. To correct this you will need to create identical folders within the ftp @ " /image/cache/data " and set folder permissions to 777.

Please note that two sets of identically names folders will need to be created.

OTHER ISSUES WHICH COULD CAUSE GRIEF.

Do not use alien symbols with the folder names, such as £$& etc. and ensure all spaces are replaced with "_" eg. Open_Cart

Hope this helps
