Options and Stock Levels

I am having a bit of a problem with my shop website. I have created a number of products that have size and colour options, and I am able to set stock quantities on the colour and the size separately, but for me I need to be able to control stock for a single size & colour variant of an item whilst keeping two separate drop down boxes on the product page.

For example:
I have the following items.
Small Blue Shirt
Small Green Shirt
Large Blue Shirt
Large Green Shirt

So on the front end product page I want there to be two options, one for size and one for colour. But the stock levels reduce separately, which means the product doesn't go out of stock when it should.

I wondered if anyone had come across this problem before and found any possible solutions?
