Hi

I am currently developing my first website using OpenCart and i'm very impressed by it so far.

One of the requirement that my client has is for there to be different shipping tarrifs dependent upon an attribute it has.

They sell most products which require a standard flat rate shipping fee but they also sell harzardess products which have to be ship according to special regualations and as such the shipping cost needs to be higher.

Is there any way opencart can be configured to do this either straight "out of the box", with an module extension that anyone knows of or with neat snippet of code?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Mark

If you need to use live rates or want exact shipping quotes displayed for each product, you can use a combination of my Restrict Shipping Methods and Individual Shipping extensions. Again, you'd have to split the hazardous products into their own individual products.

Or, if you want a single choice for the entire cart, you could do it with Ultimate Shipping.

I use the Restrict Shipping Methods extension in conjuction with a few shipping modules and would recommend it.

It makes shipping amazingly flexible.

Free v1.4.9 Extensions: Default Specials | Improved Search | Customer Activity Report | Customer Groups | Royal Mail With Handling | Improved Product Page | Random Products | Stock Report | All Products

I've just bumped into a variation that seems like it fits this discussion.

A client came to me asking how to offer free shipping on certain products, but only to customers in a certain Geo Zone. He sells specialty construction materials from his store in Connecticut, and wants to offer free shipping on certain products to customers in CT, MA and RI. Customers buying other products pay for the shipping on those products and customers from outside that Geo Zone pay for shipping on the entire order.

Is there some mod or combination of mods available from Jonathan or elsewhere that can accomplish this?

Check out this thread on a modified Free Shipping extension that allows limiting it to products:

The other option I can think of is to use Weight-Based Shipping and set the weight on those products to 0. You'd have to play around with the formulas to see if you could get it working right, but it's a possibility.

A combo of my Individual Product Shipping and Restrict Shipping Methods by Product extensions would probably work, except that you'd have to allow customers the ability to choose whether to ship everything together or individually. You can play around with all the settings at demo.getclearthinking.com/admin and see if it would work for you. I set up a test geo zone of CA/MA/RI, but you should be able to access everything you need to in order to test it out. If you can't, just let me know.
