How to personalize opencart

Please I need your help. I installed opencart without any problem. But I can't personalize the home page. index.php?controller=home

How an I remove this text:

I tried many times to remove and replace it with my own text. But There is always error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in  mysite adsress.com/opencart/catalog/language/english/controller/home.php on line 9

what is it that your trying to replace it with?

can you show us .. you most likely have ' in it that is taking it out the variable
