This feature is nice, but... What's in it for the current customer? Any chance of sending a coupon back to the referring customer when the new customer uses the invitation coupon?

Will have a think on that certainly.
However, there is nothing in place or nothing that can easily be put in place that stops anybody from sending themselves a voucher
I'm open to thoughts on this though
As it stands, it can certainly be set so that the sender also gets an email with the same voucher.
I was thinking of giving them a separate voucher, but they could then easily get 2 vouchers without anything in place as per what you suggested).

Although simple enough for such a person to manage, it would require that each "new" customer using this scheme would have to register with a "new" email address, as this is the primary key in the customer table.
Also, there is nothing to stop the existing customer from learning the invitation coupon code from the recipient, using it once on his own account, and then creating new accounts for the purpose of redeeming this coupon once per.
On the other hand, the customer, whether new or existing, needs to make a qualifying purchase in order to redeem the coupon, so the store wins in the end (so long as the coupon doesn't break the house).
OK, I give up. It's probably not worth the effort to change your extension. Full circle in 19 minutes -- not too shabby.

I think you are probably right - At least for this simple extension.
Maybe for a more advanced marketing/rewards extension - 'Spread the Word' type of thing.
Only problem with that is the abuse element - it's fine getting people to spam for you but dealing with the troubles that will inevitably result may not be worth it.
