No offense to the Algozone people, but their OpenCart templates are absolutely awful if you intend to modify your installation in any way. Their templates override core files, which makes it extremely difficult to change a piece of code if you don't know where it's being loaded from. They're also more complex than they need to be, in my opinion.
Can't say as I never tried them. They are very expensive for what they seem to offer. Also, I think their reluctance to update mobile templates comes from fact that they have not sold it much (I refer to the downloads number) But if you look at the way template looks, its quite interesting. It can be a good starting point and perhaps talented developers like you can develop something without really modifying much of core :D
All the best. If at all you build one, contact me and I will be one of the first to buy it (unless someone launches a template before that :P )

This will hopefully work on all devices and look great on all of them, from computer to iPad to iPhone, Blackberry and Android.

Extremely interested in this, any ETA ?

Thanks :)

Hi Scanreg,

I'm still working on it, but don't have much spare time at the moment, and just found out I have to go to the US next week for a week.

The navigation bar is a bit of a sticking point - what to do with it when you squeeze it all up on a small screen? But I'll think of something.

I would guess about 4-6 weeks from now.

As it'll be a bit experimental, but probably have a lot of interest, $15 probably. Then if people don't like it they haven't spent too much money.

Have never sold anything via the Extensions section before. Anyone know if you can give people who've already purchased a template free upgrades? Wouldn't like to charge people twice for small changes.

Yes, once you've created an extension, you can upload a new version and people can download it for free. If you *don't* want people to be able to download a new version, you actually have to create a new extension anyway.

I think the pricing idea is a good one. I have my $15 ready. :)

Cheers guys. That's cool. Will hopefully finish it quicker then. Will load up a version I'm reasonably happy with rather than one I think is perfect. Would prefer to crowdsource some of the decisions anyway - there are a lot of choices and sacrifices to make when going from 980px to 320px.

Can't you just add a mobile.css file to your existing template?

Yeah, you can do that. But what width do you choose? What mobile resolution are you designing for?

With responsive design you are basically creating a mobile.css file within your regular css file that works with all screen widths.

I'm slowly getting there (when I get the time).

Will this work on OpenCart 1.4.9.3 as well? Thanks.

I'm afraid I'm designing it for v1.5, but after it comes out if there's a big demand for a v1.4 version I might put in the time.

There are so many ways for it but this is the best way for it.You will need to modify the code that gets the template name from the DB to also be able to change the fetched value to the mobile theme name. So it is very necessary for it.

Hi, there was actually a 1.4.X version. http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... order=DESC
When you use it on 1.5 it totally stuffs up.

Don't worry,it's coming along nicely - although may be a couple more weeks - Christmas nights out are getting in the way.

I'm pretty excited about it - it looks a lot better than that 1.4 version.

It'll definitely be done by the end of the year.

Just like to add my voice to the thread. Awesome job if someone is willing to do it. I was thinking about this myself, but would be much happier to pay for the solution, as I would expect would be dozens (if not hundreds) of others!
