OC v1.5.1 - Error: Could not load language <language name>!

I am using Opencart v1.5.1 (I was using 1.5.1.1 first but I still had the same issues) and I am trying to install additional languages, however when I select the language from the dropdown menu I get presented with Error: Could not load language <language name>!

I tried using the Spanish Language Pack "FREE Spanish Translation 1.5.1 Actualizada"

But there is no readme file included with the download. I followed how English was set up and these are my settings:

Language Name: Spanish
Code: es
Locale: es_VE.UTF-8,es_VE,spanish (also tried es_ES.UTF-8,es_ES,spanish)
Image: es.png
Directory: spanish
Filename: spanish
Status: enabled
Sort Order: 2

Result - Error: Could not load language spanish!

I then tried to download Language Pack Italiano which does have a readme file which included all settings to add the language pack, but again, I still get the same error.

Result - Error: Could not load language italian!

The language files are in the correct spot
admin/language/spanish
catalog/language/spanish

Permissions are 755 and owned by the apache user

Code: Select all

What am I missing? I've followed some tutorials for installing language packs but everything they mentioned, I've done.
