If you store is small, then you can use opencart..
I am a developer too and I have used almost all the shopping carts and of all OPENCART is the best.
They are adding up new options to the latest versions and it is perfect.

Magento is for large scale enterprise kind of stores.
if your store is that big, then go for Magento

Hope this helps
Ash

hi,

first of all thanks for your suggestion.....

I think it would be near by 2500 to 3000 products could be there....
so I have to consider each & every thing like site speed as well as internet marketing would be the next step for me so i have to consider that one also....

I think opencart is a lot easier to learn. I tried to work with Magento... but after about 6 months working with it (a lot of on/off since I was running my stores too), it was no where near ready to use for a live store. I had opencart ready and rolling in less than 2 weeks.

Running Opencart v3.0.3.9 with multi-stores and the default template from https://www.labeshops.com which has links to all my stores.
