i have not been able to find an extension that allows one to edit an order
eg.
if an item is sold but not in stock, i would like to adjust the order to back order status
or remove the item and re invoice the customer
anyone know of an extension before i hire a developer?

I've just published my Admin Edit Order Mod for 1.5.x

You can:
- edit all parts of the billing and shipping name and address,
- delete items from an order,
- add items to an order
- edit the shipping cost.
I developed it on 1.5.1.1 as we needed it for a site, and have updated for the changes to 1.5.1.3 so pick the version you need.
