Hi Q,
I added the patch to Version 1.4.9.4 and see the updates.

I was hoping there would be an update to the Domestic Services iframe for the option of selecting "Express Mail® Service" with no additional assignment.

The options need to match USPS.com, right?

Looking at USPS.com now, I see they have totally updated the Express options in the Domestic Services iframe.

Right now I see the following options listed:
- Express Mail PO to Addressee (Does not exist now at USPS.com)
- Express Mail Hold for Pickup (Does not exist now at USPS.com)
- Express Mail Flat-Rate Envelope (OK)
- Express Mail Flat-Rate Envelope Sunday/Holiday (Does not exist now at USPS.com)
- Express Mail Sunday/Holiday (Does not exist now at USPS.com)

This is what they currently have listed:
- Express Mail® Service (Needs to be added)
- Express Mail® Flat Rate Envelope (OK)
- Express Mail® Legal Flat Rate Envelope (Needs to be added)

*Do the options need to be updated or are they OK like they are now? If they are OK, which option would equal the basic "Express Mail® Service"?

Thanks

Hello Q,
Concerning your post quoted at the end of this message. I really need the 13oz or less mail option to work right for First Class Mail package weights 13oz or less (allow for Premium rates OR standard First Class Mail rates to be selected by the customer). Can you look into this issue to confirm who's problem it actually is? I'll get back to USPS once you let me know exactly where the problem lies.

I contacted USPS concerning this feature not working like it should. They told me it was an OpenCart issue. Here's their reply after going back and forth many times:

"Since your account already has the necessary permissions, the issue with your cart not showing all shipping rates available under the 13 ounces is a coding issue within your cart software. All rates available are returned when the request is sent to our server, however the rates listed on your site are a function of the shopping cart's coding. In order to correct this issue, please contact OpenCart."

"Notes about USPS Rate V4 update:
As of May 2011, USPS is dropping support of their old Rate V3 API. The new Rate V4 API is apparently much stricter and has additional requirements. Some bullet points:
1. First-class appears only if the weight is 13oz or less. This has always been true, just restating it
2. For Domestic Mail (US to US), USPS only allows returning First-class rates OR Premium rates, but not both together. This seems like a poor implementation IMO. They should just return ALL rates like they do for international rates. So the admin panel has a new feature for choosing what options you want to show for 13oz or less mail. The First-class rate type options are:
Letter - This returns First-Class rates for envelopes for mailing things like stickers, decals, cards or mail 13oz or less
Parcel - This returns First-Class rates for parcels that are 13oz or less, like small jewelry boxes.
None - This disables the First-Class rate flag and returns premium rates only for packages that are 13oz or less, this means first class mail will not be an option."

Thanks

This has all been fixed in 1.4.9.5 and v1.4.9.6 already and just needs the new code added to 1.5.x which I will do later tonight in svn. The USPS module in 1.4.x is bug free and completely supports first class letter, package, or priority

I'm using 1.4.9.4 and it doesn't work. Can you give me a patch? Can't do upgrade now since I read it's a major deal to go to 1.5.x.

You can see it doesn't work on my site. Just add product PH200 to the cart and Guest checkout to see ONLY First Class USPS shipping option shows up: http://www.pursejewelry.com/store/purse ... se_hangers

Thanks

Just copy the usps files from 1.4.9.6

Replace your store's version of these 5 files:
- admin/controller/shipping/usps.php
- admin/language/english/shipping/usps.php
- admin/view/template/shipping/usps.tpl
- catalog/language/english/shipping/usps.php
- catalog/model/shipping/usps.php

Hi,
I made the updates and verified the Shipping Mod. Still only get First Class rates returned from USPS for a 3 oz product purchase. Any ideas what to do next?

Here's what I get even when Express and Priority mail are selected:

Please select the preferred shipping method to use on this order.
United States Postal Service (Weight: 0.19lb)

First-Class Mail $1.71

Also, concerning Express Mail option. There is still NO plain Jane "Express Mail" option. Everything but including "Express Hold for Pickup", "Express Sat/Holiday Delivery", "Express Flat Rate Envelope" etc... No standard "Express Mail" optioin to select in Admin.

Try looking at the admin configuration changes for USPS
Image
It was also recently discovered that normal "express" is listed as "Express Mail PO to Addressee"

Yes, I've looked and tried multiple settings for the First Class Rate Type.
- Disable gives me only Priority Mail.
- Letter gives me First Class only.
- Parcel gives me First Class only.

*I also found "Express PO to Addressee" to list and quote "Normal Express mail" BUT it gives THE WRONG QUOTE. Quotes $13.25 for a 5 oz package and should quote $19.66. Can't use it if it's not accurate.

United States Postal Service (Weight: 0.19lb)
- Express Mail $13.25 (Actual cost is $19.66 at USPS.com) Needs fixed to quote correct rates.
- Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box $5.20 (OK)
- First-Class Mail Postcards $0.29 (No idea why this rate s quoted. It's defenitly not checked) Needs fixed to not quote.
- NO First Class Mail quote

So where do we go from here? I really need this to work with accurate quotes.

Thanks

I've tested this 10 times and get the exact match 100% of the time on usps servers. I hate to spend more time on this.

The appearance of "First class postcard" looks to be a problem.. but ignoring that

Exact match every time

I'm not trying to be a pain, I just need it to work right.

Your USPS screenshots do not look familiar. Where are you getting the layout in your screenshot?

Can you please fix this problem? I really can't ignore it. My customers will select it! "The appearance of "First class postcard" looks to be a problem.. but ignoring that"

Back to the original problem. I'll have to worry about the Express quotes being accurate after the First Class mail can display BOTH First Class Mail rates AND Premium rates. For First Class Mail weight 3 oz, the cart will not quote both First Class rates AND Premium rates.

Your sample shows a "Media rate" which is not needed. I see no First Class rate quoted in your cart which is what we are looking for. Here's my setup and cart results. http://pursejewelry.com/pics/USPSresults.jpg Screenshots of the USPS Admin and the actual cart quotes.

The cart only shows First Class, NO Premium services with a 3 oz package weight. We need BOTH options to quote for a package 13 oz and under. Can you make it work right?

Thanks again...

I think we are miscommunicating here

First off... Express... The rate I show is in the cart based on .19lb package from California 90210 to Chicago 60606
I enter the same info into this website, which is USPS's rate calculator site:
http://postcalc.usps.gov/
That gives me the exact same prices for the .19lb product when "First Class mode" is set to "Disabled"
The same goes for all the other rates. They are only shown as demonstration. You can uncheck whatever you don't want

Secondly, You keep asking about First class but then ask about Express..
USPS rate class options are mutually exclusive
First class OR priorty and express, but not both.

Due to the way USPS made their API, you cannot show FirstClass AND priority/express rates at the same time. This was a terrible design move by USPS IMO but that is just how they do it. It has been discussed a bit further here
http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php ... 34#p172205

So if you want items 13oz or less to show as FirstClass then choose letter or package in the admin area
If you want items 13oz or less to show as if they are normal packages and display priority and express rates, then set that first class option to "Disabled". From there, all rates are shown to be exact matches on opencart store as they are on the usps site.

Even the firstclass mail rates... when enabled, match:

Q,
I think we are definetly miscommunicating. Your statement above is not true according to USPS. I keep asking about First Class AND Express mail quotes together because that's the problem. The rates are not mutually exclusive according to USPS support. That is exactly what my very first post in this string pointed out from USPS Support (see that quote below). They state that it will provide quotes for BOTH First Class rates AND Premium rates (Priority and Express).

Customers ship .3 oz packages Priority and Express mail all the time. Some also ship .3 oz packages at the cheaper First Class rate if they are not in a hurry. They need the option which USPS support says is there on their end. They say OpenCart has the issue and to contact whoever manages the module.
"Concerning your post quoted at the end of this message.

Here's their reply after going back and forth with them many times:

USPS Support Quote "Aug 23, 2011": "Since your account already has the necessary permissions, the issue with your cart not showing all shipping rates available under the 13 ounces is a coding issue within your cart software. All rates available are returned when the request is sent to our server, however the rates listed on your site are a function of the shopping cart's coding. In order to correct this issue, please contact OpenCart."
So what do we do now? It can't be used the way it is. It needs fixed. I've spent days on this problem as well and I don't know what else to do besides post on the forum.

Thanks for your time...

Ok I see the issue.

This is the list of services returned by USPS

<Postage CLASSID="3"><MailService>Express Mail</MailService><Rate>25.15</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="2"><MailService>Express Mail Hold For Pickup</MailService><Rate>25.15</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="23"><MailService>Express Mail Sunday/Holiday Delivery</MailService><Rate>37.65</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="13"><MailService>Express Mail Flat Rate Envelope</MailService><Rate>18.30</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="27"><MailService>Express Mail Flat Rate Envelope Hold For Pickup</MailService><Rate>18.30</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="25"><MailService>Express Mail Sunday/Holiday Delivery Flat Rate Envelope</MailService><Rate>30.80</Rate></Postage>

<Postage CLASSID="38"><MailService>Priority Mail Gift Card Flat Rate Envelope</MailService><Rate>4.95</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="42"><MailService>Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Envelope</MailService><Rate>4.95</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="40"><MailService>Priority Mail Window Flat Rate Envelope</MailService><Rate>4.95</Rate></Postage>

<Postage CLASSID="0"><MailService>First-Class Mail Postcards</MailService><Rate>0.29</Rate></Postage>

<Postage CLASSID="15"><MailService>First-Class Mail Large Postcards</MailService><Rate>0.44</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="4"><MailService>Parcel Post</MailService><Rate>5.38</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="6"><MailService>Media Mail</MailService><Rate>2.41</Rate></Postage>
<Postage CLASSID="7"><MailService>Library Mail</MailService><Rate>2.29</Rate></Postage>
The code triggers on CLASSID but usps considers all different types of Firstclass to be the same classid so each one overwrites the previous. That is why you see the Firstclass Postcards all the time, since that is the last one.

I'll have to add special code for the first class rates.

Does this address the original issue as well or just the Postcard rates being returned?

Are you able to address the original issue or do I need to contact USPS support again?
I saw a previous post from you with more info on the 13 oz or lower First Class rate returning both First Class rate options AND Premium rate options. Now it's gone. If you can't fix it do I need that info to pass on to USPS support? If so, can you email it to me direct?

Thanks

First post on the forum is always a problem, right? ;)

I went through the procedures outlined and got the web tools api user name and password as well as the latest usps module update for 1.4.9.4 which I am running, but there is no field for the password that I was given by usps. Is this unusual as I am still getting the authentication failure error.

If there is no password field, its not needed. Why do people look for fields that aren't there. There's no "Age" or "Gender" field either... ;) it's not needed. If you are not authenticated then you need to call usps and tell them you are using opencart and you need your account enabled for production.
